Biography

Kenny P was born Tshepo Kenneth Phelwane in Mafikeng, in the North West Province. He is the first born of three (3) siblings and is married to Patty and they are blessed with a baby boy named Lethabo ‘Sammy_P. He started to sing at the age of 12 in Sunday school classes, school choirs and that is when he discovered his passion for music.

Kenny P is a Recording Gospel Artist, songwriter, bass guitarist and an aspiring producer. He is an artist of a South African record label called Phelwane Entertainment (Visit them on http://tshepophelwane.wix.com/phelwanentertainment). His gospel music style is a sweet mix of soul, tradition among others, and also a mix of different languages. His taste of gospel music is a bit different from what others are doing, which allows him to establish a brand of his own.

He is mostly inspired by his zeal to ‘bring out the best in others’, which drives him to write and sing songs that helps others to become better people. His music answers tough questions and provides solutions to tough problems of life, and gives courage to the despondent.

In February 2000 he enrolled at the Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sports Foundation institution where he studied music and also learnt how to play the bass guitar. He was a fast learner and in June of the same year he could read music and was included in the Mmabana Big Band, which participated at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz held in Grahamstown.        He also wrote his first song there and performed it with other students at the ‘End of the Year Concert’ for new students.

Kenny P continued to sing in different choirs and participated in different music concerts and festivals. In 2009 he was discovered by Tshepo Vena, the owner of Conscious People Music record company, who offered to record two (2) of his songs for free for marketing purposes.

Kenny P and Kgotso Makgalema of Spirit Music were requested to audition candidates for the new choir in Mafikeng called ‘Mafikeng Spiritual Singers’, in which he featured when they performed live for the first time at Mmabatho Convention Centre. Thereafter Kenny P captured the hearts of those present when he performed 3 of his songs

Kenny P is leading the music and sound department at Christian Faith Centre in Mafikeng where he is also a Pastor.
